Textile Conductive Paths

Conducting Paths

Traces are electrically conductive connections on a printed circuit board. They are used for the current paths, ground and temperature dissipation. To ensure that the current is transported with as little loss as possible, the conductor paths are usually made of copper, which has a low resistivity, and are etched out of the laminated copper coating during PCB production. This is done using lithographic and electroplating processes. Compared to conventional traces, Shieldex's textile traces are flexible and can be folded and bent into any conceivable shape without the metallized structures breaking. The textile conductor paths can be etched, purely partially silver-plated, or even embroidered.

Style with functionality

Conductor paths integrated into textiles enable new functions, micro-electronics become a fashionable accessory and offer endless perspectives of wearable applications in the field of e-health. In order to make previously analog textiles and devices smart, innovative and sustainable ideas as well as implementation variants for the fashion sector from textiles and technology must be developed.

With Shieldex, user-oriented rehabilitation garments can be developed that enable patients, for example after a stroke, to train their bodies under supervision. Sensors produced from the conductive Shieldex yarn by textile sensor manufacturers can measure muscle activity and thereby optimize the rehabilitation process. The training data sent to a processing module can be evaluated via an app, for example, and thus provide helpful information about the healing process.

Shieldex Inside

Shieldex is lightweight, flexible, bendable and versatile due to its textile structure, while silver conducts heat and electricity. The combination of the two delivers a product that was already used in 2018 by one of the largest American IT groups in a rubber tablet keyboard that could be folded and rolled up. It is made possible by partial metallization, a process developed by Shieldex in which only the required structure of the respective conductor track or heating coil is mapped and metallized.
