Yarn coatings and their properties
Discover the special coatings and abbreviations of our Shieldex yarns, which provide additional protection, improved processing properties, and optimal performance – perfectly tailored to meet the diverse demands of technical and textile applications.
B Coating
The "B" designation represents an additional protective coating that safeguards the silver in the yarn against mechanical stresses during processing. This coating does not affect the yarn’s electrical or thermal conductivity, making it ideal for demanding applications where durability and robustness are essential.
OA Coating
"OA" describes an optimized coating that improves the yarn’s running properties in textile machines, such as weaving, embroidery, and knitting machines. This coating facilitates processing and ensures smooth handling in industrial operations.
Antimicrobial
Yarns labeled “antimicrobial” contain a reduced silver content, resulting in minimal to no electrical or thermal conductivity. These yarns are particularly suited for antistatic applications and are also used in the apparel industry for electromagnetic shielding. They provide added comfort for electro-sensitive individuals and offer reliable protection against static charges.
HC (High Conductive)
The abbreviation "HC" stands for “high conductive.” Yarns with this label contain a higher silver content, which grants them enhanced electrical and thermal conductivity. These properties make them ideal for applications requiring maximum conductivity and stability.
C12 Coating
The "C12" coating is a versatile protective layer that provides anti-corrosion properties as well as hydrophobic characteristics. It can be applied to all yarns and small parts and is standard on our Velcro and zipper products. This coating chemically bonds with the silver, enhancing the yarn’s resistance to environmental factors. It does not affect the yarn’s electrical properties and gives the product a slightly darker appearance while preventing unwanted effects, such as fingerprints. The C12 coating is excellent for technical applications where long-term stable conductivity is crucial, such as in data cables and measurement electrodes.
