Innovative Wrapping Yarns

Shieldex® Wrapped Yarn offers new ways and approaches in the field of technical textiles. While it was previously not possible to dye the silver-plated yarns, the wrapping process offers many new possibilities for wrapping dyed yarns with Shieldex's electrically and thermally conductive as well as antimicrobial yarns. The properties of the silvered yarn are retained during this process. Shieldex yarns can even be used to wrap an elastic core, which was specially developed for elastic applications. Also under development is a textile coaxial cable whose inner conductor is wrapped in a protective outer conductor, shielding it against interference radiation.
Wrapped Yarns

Dyeing

Shieldex silver-plated yarn can be easily wrapped around dyed cotton yarns, colored polyester yarns and many more. The silver-plated yarn with its 99.9 % pure silver is not directly affected in the dyeing process and it can therefore be used for almost all dyed yarns without losing any of its positive properties.

Stretching

With an elastic core yarn, our Shieldex yarn becomes a stretchable multi-talent. Specially developed for elastic fabrics and applications, this yarn can revolutionize new developments. The already textile and flexible attributes of the conductive yarns is extended and improved by the elasticity and is therefore the perfect thread for elastic fabrics such as jersey, sweat, cuffs and many more.

Protect

In combination with the wrapped yarn Shieldex® 117/17 2ply HCB and our highly electrically and thermally conductive Shieldex® TPU yarn, a coaxial cable could be realized. Coaxial cables consist of an inner conductor (Shieldex® 117/17 2ply HCB TPU), which is constantly surrounded by an outer conductor (Shieldex® 117/17 2ply HCB), shielding the inner conductor from interference radiation.

Information about the wrapping yarn

Here you will find all the important information about the wrapping yarn. If your questions remain unanswered, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We will be glad to help you.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

A minimum order quantity of 25 kg per yarn type applies to the wrapping yarns. If you only need a small quantity for testing, we offer a maximum of 2 sample tubes of 200 g each. If the minimum order quantity is not reached, a minimum quantity surcharge of 300,00€ per yarn type will be charged.

How to process the wrapping yarn?

The processing of the wrapped yarns depends on the respective machines and materials that are used. In general, the wrapping yarn can be processed via flat circular knitting, weaving mills and warp knitting mills.

Which materials can be wrapped?

All filament yarns made of polyamide (PA), polyester (PES), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) as well as all natural fibers such as cotton but also viscose can be wrapped.

What colors are available?

Normally, all colors can be realized. If you want a special color, we need a template, which can then be customized at the dyer. An overview of the standard colors can be found in the products Shieldex® Wrapped Yarnd dyed red and Shieldex® Wrapped Yarnd dyed black.

What properties must the yarns to be wrapped have?

The thickness of the yarn to be wrapped may only be between 50 dtex and 2,500 dtex.

How long does the production take?

The production time depends on the desired quantity, the titer and the respective availability.

Cooperation with Lederer

Tradition meets Innovation

In cooperation with Lederer elastic yarns, we have created another milestone in the product variation of Shieldex. In addition to color-wound and stretchable yarns for home textiles (bedding, towels) and apparel (shirts, socks, sports compression), flexible solutions in the field of coaxial cables can also be realized with Shieldex.
